The initial cost of non-rechargeable torches and lanterns is lower than the cost of rechargeable types. However, although non-rechargeable types have much higher operating costs, their battery run time is almost always longer than that of rechargeable torches between charges.
While the run time of non-rechargeable batteries is generally longer than that of rechargeable batteries between charges, rechargeable batteries can be recharged up to 1000 times depending on the type. If the torch is to be used frequently, then a rechargeable torch will be far less expensive. Consider the comparative running costs. How many sets of disposable batteries and at what cost, are required to produce the same results as those produced by non-disposable batteries recharged 500 to1000 times?
If expected use is infrequent or the availability of charging facilities is not practical, then a non-rechargeable torch may be the best choice.
